Rip Van Fish

Rip Van Fish are a type of fish that first appear in Super Mario World. They first appear to be sleeping til Mario (or Yoshi) approaches them at which point they chase after them in an attempt to kill them.

Rip Van Fish also appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS. In both these games, their aggressiveness have been toned down by a lot. They now swim around the water blocking Yoshi Submarine's path. They can be defeated by shooting missiles at them. These games also introduce an aggressive golden varity of the Rip Van Fish called Piscatory Pete.

Trivia

• The Rip Van Fish are among the few enemies from the Yoshi's Island games to not return in Yoshi's New Island.
