Mario Kart 64 Is a Mario racing game for the Nintendo 64 in 1996 in Japan and worldwide the next year. The 2nd game in the Mario Kart (series), Mario Kart 64 is an upgrade from Super Mario Kart, as there's now endless times a player can redo a race if they get 5th or under. There's several new items, such as the red shells and green shells and Mario Kart 64 is the 1st game in the Mario series to let more than 2 people play at once. The game was commercially successful, as the 2nd best seller for the N64 and was well reviewed by critics, with only Super Mario 64 selling more copies. The game was released on the Nintendo Switch Online.

The main mode of the game allowing up to 2 players, Grand Prix has Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup and Special Cup and has speeds of 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. Once the fastest has gold cups in all, Extra is unlocked. The speed in Extra is 100cc, though the courses are flipped horizontally. If the player wins a cup, they receive Gold, Silver or Bronze depending on their rank. If they place under 3rd, the character watches the 3 winning characters head to the podium, then drives away and are sent into the air by a mini bomb kart with the character giving an upset reaction and the message on the screen saying "What a pity. You placed 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th, maybe next time (You are in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th in the Japan version). In 2 player mode, only 1 player must place 4th or more. In 1 player mode, they must redo the race unless they place at least 4th with rare exceptions of the game glitching if the player gets 5th.

Versus

2 Or more players compete to win races of their choice. The winning player receives a point and gives their winning face while the losing player or players give their defeat faces. The points don't signify anything and the races go til the players decide to stop. Mini Bomb Karts appear on tracks during versus mode races.
